Lawns & Patios Kidderminster, Worcestershire

lawns and patios

Whether you have a small garden or a few acres everybody loves a perfectly manicured lawn. A lawn is often the focal point of a garden, a place where the kids can play while the adults are socialising. Likewise you need a hard area or patio to walk out onto should the lawn be wet. The patio also creates an area to entertain, have a BBQ or sit back and relax with a glass of wine and enjoy the last of that summer sun.

Family-run ILPD are based in Kidderminster, Worcestershire and have been creating beautiful gardens since the late 80's. One of the best things about our job is all the gardens we create are different and this means we have gained a lot of experience tackling a wide variety of problems that each different garden presents. We have designed 100's of lawns, patios and entertainment areas so if you want to transform your garden into something special, call the experts today and find out how we can help you.

The perfect lawn

Creating the perfect lawn is actually not that difficult. With a bit of knowledge and the right products, you too can have that weed free, striped lawn you have always dreamed of. Yes it will take a bit of maintenance such as cutting the grass and applying the right products at the right time of year but with a bit of effort you can do it too.

Grass Types

One of the things that is often overlooked when planning a lawn is the varying types of grass that we can use. If you lawn looks unappealing it may be a simple matter of replacing the grass with a more suitable strain. We can select the correct type of grass for you.

Below are some of the common species of grass you're likely to find in and English back garden.

  • Dwarf Ryegrass - Establishes itself quickly, prefers moist soils, doesn’t like shade
  • Red Fescue. Low maintenance. needs very little fertiliser, irrigation or mowing. does well in dry, shady environments, doesn't like hot climates.
  • Slender Creeping Red Fescue. Withstands harsh weather, likes well drained soil, likes shaded conditions
  • Common Bent. Thrives in nutrient poor soil, damp soils, meadows, acidic soils, very hardy
  • Smooth-stalked Meadow Grass. hardwearing turf, dark green wide leaf
  • Annual Meadow Grass. Common on golf and bowling greens, needs looking after

Drainage and Irrigation

Drainage is very important in a lawn. Some lawns don’t have adequate drainage and this can cause moss to grow in the lawn and choke the grass. This problem can be overcome by aerating the lawn and filling the resulting holes with gravel or sand so the water has somewhere to escape to. When this is done correctly the grass will thrive and grow easily turning a nice bright green. Sometimes this is not possible so selecting the right type of grass will help.

Weeds and weed products

We have access to some excellent water in products that kill weeds but do not kill the grass so you can forget about weeding and crawling around on your hands and knees pulling out dandelions. Simply water the lawn and wait. Before you know it you will have an emerald green lawn that is completely weed free and spongy under foot.

Patios

As well as providing a reliable space to stand on, entertain and place garden furniture a patio will add style to your back garden. Whether you want your patio to complement your brickwork or contrast completely there is a huge range of colours and finishes available, so you can choose a style to suit your taste perfectly with both contemporary and traditional options on offer.

Likewise if you're thinking of selling your home, a manicured lawn and patio will improve the property's kerb appeal, increase the property's value and ensure you make an excellent first impression on prospective buyers.
