When to build a retaining wall?
Retaining walls are a typical solution if you have a sloping garden and you want to create more usable garden space. By using a retaining wall we can create a tiered garden with 2 flat areas to replace the slope, one lower and one upper separated by the retaining wall in the middle. Two flat areas are much more usable than one slope as they create a level surface for outdoor furniture, entertaining or even drying washing etc. Consequently when you build a retaining wall you often need to add steps or a staircase to access the higher levels of the garden.
Professionally designed and constructed Walls and Steps
Garden stairs and walls can be designed in many ways with square or right angled walls or flowing curves. Often the most attractive designs are built using curves which adds a unique quality and creates interest. Sometimes in smaller gardens it is a better use of space to create straight retaining walls. Straight walls may also be slightly cheaper to build as they use less materials and are faster to erect.
Our design process is unique in that you are involved every step of the way. We can produce various designs to choose from and we will discuss all the options available to you before we lift a single tool.
There are multiple materials to choose from when designing steps or retaining walls. Some of the materials you can choose from include:
- Bricks, Blocks
- Railway Sleepers
- A combination of each.
Our industry experience means we can tackle difficult problems easily such as ensuring adequate drainage, avoiding underground pipe work and producing a landscaped garden with steps and walls that are in complete harmony with the rest of the garden. Building stairs and steps requires careful planning and an eye for detail. As with all our other work, we can remove excess soil from your site if required, meaning you don't have to suffer the cost and inconvenience of a skip.
